Texas Hill Country’s Craft Beer Scene

The Texas Hill Country is a beautiful region of the Lone Star State well known for its vibrant and unique wineries. The Texas Wine Trail refers to the area as Texas Wine Country, and for good reason; with more than 50 wineries in the region, there is truly something for everyone when it comes to Texas Wine.

However, something else is fermenting and growing in this hilly land: beer! In response to the Texas Wine Trail, the Hill Country Craft Beer Trail was established as a guide to the burgeoning Craft Beer scene in the region. Currently containing 18 breweries as unique as the towns and cities that make up the Hill Country, there is something for even the most discerning beer lover in Hill Country Craft Beer Trail. Let’s take a look at three of the most popular breweries in the area:

1.) Jester King Brewery – Austin

Consistently ranked one of top Farmhouse/sour breweries in the United States, as well as in the top 10 for best small breweries, Jester King is a juggernaut in the sour, wild and spontaneous brewing world. Though they can be a little niche, these beers are dry and refreshing. Le Petit Prince is especially loved by craft beer aficionados for its secondary fermentation.

2.) Real Ale Brewing Co. – Blanco

Real Ale has been brewing in the rugged beauty of Blanco since 1996. Not only is their beer delicious and their lineup well rounded, but they also produce their own grain to glass spirits! So not only can you taste delicious beer brewed only for Texas, but some excellent spirits as well.

3.) Wimberley Brewing Co. – Wimberley

Pizza and beer are the perfect partners; throw in football and you have a match made in heaven! Wimberley Brewing Company was started by the two time NFL Champ Bruce Collie inside Brewster’s Pizzeria – a homemade pizza shop slinging outstanding pies in the Hill Country. The beers take inspiration from the location and from customers alike. Try a Mount Baldy IPA inspired by the famous locale, or a Phantom Porter named for a former F-4 Phantom pilot and customer of the brewery!
